Prestwick is a great 18-hole regulation course located at the Prestwick Country Club facility in Avon, IN. From the longest tees it offers 6,885 yards of golf for a par of 72. The course was designed by Robert Simmons and opened in 1974. The course rating is 73.7 with a slope rating of 127. Prestwick is a public golf course, offering public play 7 days a week, with season passes available. One of central Indiana’s premier 18-hole golf course. Prestwick offers four sets of tees, which can make the course play anywhere from 5,800 to 6,875 yards depending upon the challenge you desire. The course is an energetic family friendly and golf-oriented. Prestwick Country Club has tested many of Indiana’s top professional and amateur golfers. Prestwick enjoys a rich tournament history including the Indiana Men’s State Open, Indiana Women’s State Open, Indianapolis Open, Indiana State Amateur, Indiana Match Play Championship, and the Boy’s and Girl’s IHSAA State Championships. Position Summary As a key member of the Prestwick Country Club maintenance team, this position works directly with the Assistants-in-Training, Assistant Superintendents and Golf Course Grounds Crew to assists with the day-to-day maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course and adjacent grounds, including but not limited to the clubhouse landscaping and maintenance complex. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual who is looking to become a long-term superintendent with Prestwick Country Club. This candidate should be a self-starter who takes pride in his/her work ethic and values the importance of being a team player. This position will expose the candidate to a wide variety of turf practices. The Prestwick Country Club Turf Crew must understand the importance of sound agronomic practices with a leader than understands accountability and leadership. Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements • MUST BE DRUG FREE. WILL HAVE TO PASS DRUG TEST. • MUST NOT HAVE A CRIMINAL PAST ON THEFT. • MUST HAVE A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE. • Must have sprayer license from the State of Indiana. • Must have a strong business aptitude and passion for the golf business. • Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. • Must have some mechanical skills to fix and repair on demand repair needs. • Must have irrigation skills on fixing and repairing pipes and heads. • Must be able to purge and air out irrigation system before winter for winterizing. • Must have some network and technology skills. • Seeking candidates that can work long summer hours. Position Responsibilities The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for managing the Golf Course Maintenance Department activities within the guidelines, policies and standards established by the Prestwick Country Club Ownership Group. This position will manage the Grounds Crew for the daily maintenance of the course. • Daily mowing of all playing surfaces with walk-behind units and riding units. • Proper water management (Irrigation and hand watering, etc.). • Fertilizer and chemical applications (proper calibration and techniques). • Proper course set up (daily hole and tee locations and detail work). • Cultural practices (topdressing, aerification, etc.). • Irrigation maintenance (irrigation head fixes, pipe repairs, locating/troubleshooting wiring issues). • Learning how to manage according to the weather. • Communicate well with the crew, management and members. • Carry oneself with professionalism in both appearance and demeanor. • Understand the importance of networking, career preparation, and record. keeping. • Develops, prepares, establishes, and maintains the entire golf course and clubhouse grounds. • Plans, schedules and monitors operations, which include manpower, equipment, and supply requirements for the department and maintains accountability for the cost, utilization, and performance of employees and equipment. • Develops and manages budgets for projected departmental expenditures • Coordinates budgetary reviews and approvals with the General Manager and the Prestwick Country Club Ownership Group. • 24 hour ON-Call standby for emergencies. • Ensures proper accounting procedures are followed for all maintenance activity, including labor distributions, purchases, and fixed assets. • Develops monthly forecasts and explains monthly variances from the projected budget. • Maintains purchase order, invoice, and tracking systems. SOFTWARE DRIVEN. • Directs and participates in the construction and maintenance of the grounds. • Maintains required records for: man-hour usage, equipment maintenance, tool inventory, supply inventory, daily log, fertilizer, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, fuel usage, weather, water usage, and all records required by governmental authorities relevant to pesticide usage. • Ensures safety regulations, policies and procedures are followed. • Ensures that departmental employees have a clean, organized, and safe working environment that meets all local, state and federal regulations and maintains adequate stock levels. Includes daily shop clean down and machine maintenance. • Operates the department within all local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines. • Follow and implements environmental programs consistent with International Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program Certification and meet departmental environmental goals. • Selects, orients, trains, motivates and retains staff capable of meeting current and projected personnel needs; makes recommendations and decisions on various personnel matters such as salaries, performance reviews (both annual & semi-annual), and terminations. • Maintains control of employee uniforms, ensuring that employees wear the appropriate uniform, that uniforms are kept in good condition, and are at all times readily available to employees. • Works closely with the General Manager to interpret and implement departmental policies and procedures. • Special projects or other duties as assigned. • Proper course set up (daily hole and tee locations and detail work). • Carry oneself with professionalism in both appearance and demeanor. • Understand the importance of networking, career preparation, and record keeping. • DAILY SHOP CLEANDOWN AND EQUIPMENT SERVICE FOR NEXT DAY. Working Conditions • The employee is often required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or control. • They will occasionally be required to balance, stoop, twist upper body, kneel, and climb. • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50lbs occasionally. • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and depth perception. • Moderate exposure to extreme cold, heat, working outdoors, chemicals, pesticides, gasoline, vibration, pollen, dust, mechanical hazards and electrical hazards. • Noise level is typically moderate to loud. • Work extended hours during golf and holiday season. • Work weekends and holidays. • SHIFT MAY VARY, MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ALL SHIFTS, INCLUDING: NIGHTS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS DURING THE SEASON ON EMERGENCY CALLS. Experience Requirements • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in turf management or related field or trades training and work-related experience in turf management. • Must have and maintain GCSAA Class A status. (Negotiable) • Thorough knowledge of general business administration practices and golf course operations practices and procedures as would be acquired through minimum of five years of similar golf course maintenance experience in progressively responsible position with minimum of two years as golf course superintendent. • Prior supervisory experience required. • Working knowledge of golf course operations, turf management and practices necessary.
