Job Summary: The Director of Facility Operations will manage the plant engineering activities for the hospital (MUHA) and academic (MUSC) buildings on the Medical University of South Carolina campus and the Charleston region, including 10 million square feet of occupied space. The Director of Facility Operations provides leadership within the department while maintaining high quality standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer requirements, and meeting the financial objectives of the Facilities Department. The Director of Facility Operations manages a staff of 90+ maintenance personnel, coordinates a contracted maintenance program consisting of 30+ agreements totaling $5 million annually, and provides planning and leadership for a $10 million annual capital infrastructure renewal program.
Experience & Additional Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or an equivalent combination of training and work experience. • A minimum of 10 years of general maintenance experience with increasing levels of responsibility, including at least five years of recent managerial experience in facilities at an acute care hospital or higher education organization. • Broad knowledge of HVAC, mechanical and electrical repair and systems, utilities, and total building systems associated with the healthcare or higher education industry. • Experience managing design and construction for large facility capital infrastructure projects. • Knowledgeable regarding audit protocols and regulatory requirements. (Joint Commission, OSHA, etc.) • Strong understanding of energy benchmarking and management, with the ability to cut costs.
